Junior Staff

Just a few words from our Director

Our Mission, though more explicit, has not changed in years:

“We believe, for a brighter future, we must develop those that will lead others that have the habits to be healthy physically fit happy successful emotionally intelligent empathetic ethical people with grit, which are well educated, skilled in creative, critical, and divergent thinking, capable of adaptability and collaboration, and are good stewards of the earth.”

The core of Northwestern Outdoor Leadership Institute is leadership and developing the best leader for the future, this is our legacy. If you commit to this program, follow our guidance, and work to make your best better, it will serve you well.

Open For

These camps are open to teens 16 – 22, that demonstrate positive deportment, empathy, a willingness to learn, assist lead instructors, and a desire to work to make your best better.

Purpose of These Camps

Our own selfish goal is to develop and train teens to become future senior staff. These camps will also serve them well in becoming adults, spouses, parents, and members of community.

Responsibilities and Commitment

We admit 14 teens into leadership each summer. They will attend a 7 day leadership camp where the campers work on raising their own personal bar to become a better person and mentor. They will have time and mentorship to develop their own personal skills.

This is a rite of passage camp with each individual developing curriculum developed by themselves’ and the director. The last 3 days they will join with the senior staff training and learn the policies and procedures that all staff must follow. They will also assist the senior staff in preparing and running camps. They will attend most if not all summer camp sessions, which may include teen, preteen, kids camps, and family camps. Each Evening we will have a staff debrief and learn more skills.

After completing the summer the leadership students may be invited to join the NOLI Dream Team of Youth Leaders
